Oh my gosh, was this Saturday ever perfect! A high of 57 degrees and 100% sunny. It was the most beautiful day we’ve had in a loooong time. And I got to spend it with my two favorite guys. We woke up around 7:30 and after getting dressed and feeding Cormac, we headed out to breakfast at 5 Spot. We used to live down the hill from it and I was a huge fan. I don’t think we’ve been there since we moved out of Queen Anne, but it was great to be back. They have a steady menu, as well as a rotating, themed menu. After a bit of indecisiveness, I had some Creole Eggs Benedict from the “Blues Highway” menu. Pretty sure I haven’t had a benedict since 2011. It. Was. Awesome.

And Cormac feasted on a side of avocado. We’ve been giving him what we’ve been eating, within reason, but even though I’ve been eating dairy without it bothering him, I’m still a bit nervous about giving him straight dairy, so I let him stick with avocado. He seemed content with that and his giraffe.

After Brent and I were done with breakfast and Cormac was done flirting with the other patrons, we headed back home so that someone could take a nap. When he woke up we took advantage of the weather and headed out a walk to grab some lattes and scope out the farmers market.

And then we met our friends for beer at Two Beers! We hung out for a few hours swapping baby stories and drinking. I love seeing babies together. Cormac is at that stage where he finds other babies absolutely fascinating.

Plus the beers were tasty. My favorite was the Hearth, their winter warmer.

We got home, put Cormac to bed, ordered some take-out and I ate myself into an Indian food coma.

So basically, it was kind of a perfect day. Oh, except for the fact that we rented Here Comes the Boom from Redbox and it was literally the worst movie ever made. Alas, can’t win ’em all.

Summer Has Arrived

When I last left you, countdown to Baby Monroe’s appearance was around 3 months and life still seemed manageable. The countdown is now at around 5 weeks and I feel so big that making it up the two flights of stairs to our bedroom seems like a monumental task some (most) days.

I think we’re feeling as ready as we’re going to get at this point. Baby Boy’s got most of his room set up (and it looks way nicer than our room).

And we’re just trying to enjoy some down time before our lives get flip turned upside down. I’ve finished working for the time being, and Brent took a few extra days off work, which has been nice. For the Fourth, we mostly took it easy and went to a Mariners game and walked a few blocks to watch fireworks from a bridge in our ‘hood.

We’ve passed the Fourth of July, which means Summer has actually started in Seattle now. I know the rest of the country has been unbearably hot, but until yesterday we’ve had 60 degree weather and rain. (We watched the game in jeans and fleece).

Now that the sun has begun its annual 8 week appearance in western Washington, Brent and I tried to soak it up. Unfortunately, my endurance is at an all-time low so “soaking it up” took the form of a scenic drive.

We drove north on Chuckanut Drive to Bellingham, through mountains and along Samish Bay, where we saw oyster and clam farms (the lines you see below).

Once in Bellingham, we stopped for lunch at Boundary Bay Brewery.

Along with our sandwiches (which were awesome) I had their root beer and Brent had a sampler.

Once it was decided I was willing to drive home, we stopped at Chuckanut Brewery for more beer for him and dessert for me.

Pretty delicious shortcake. And then I drove home while Brent napped in the passenger seat. He’s considerate like that.

Hopefully I’ll be back with another update before the tiny human arrives, but if not, wish us luck!
